Vietnam and Japan Discuss Cooperation in Education, Research, and Technology
Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan met with his Japanese counterpart Seki Yoshihiro to discuss new areas of cooperation between the two countries.
During Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan's visit to Japan, three key areas of cooperation were proposed aimed at training strategic technology personnel, investing in the Vietnam-Japan University, and expanding joint programs.
Visit to Japan and Bilateral Meeting
As part of his working visit to Japan on October 2, 2026, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan held an official meeting with Japan's Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Seki Yoshihiro.
Proposals in Education and Research
During the meeting, current relations between the two countries in education, science, and technology were evaluated, and future-oriented strategic steps were addressed.
Training of Strategic Technology Personnel
Minister Vu Hai Quan requested that Japan continue providing master's and doctoral scholarships to Vietnamese students in strategic technology fields and increase academic exchanges.
University Investments and Chip Laboratory
While requesting necessary support for the Vietnam-Japan University, a proposal was made to establish a pilot-scale chip research and production center for the semiconductor industry.
Expansion of Programs and Cooperation
It was requested that joint coordination mechanisms be developed and existing cooperation programs be expanded to include artificial intelligence and healthcare.
Parties' Assessments and Conclusion
Emphasizing that Vietnam is an important partner, Japanese Minister Seki Yoshihiro stated that science and technology form a new foundation in bilateral relations and noted that relevant units would be instructed.
