The Vietnamese delegation attending the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency held talks regarding the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and new research reactor projects.

IAEA 70th General Conference Meetings

The 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency, held at the Vienna International Centre in the capital of Austria, took place from September 14 to 18.

The Vietnamese delegation participated in this annual policy forum where member states discussed critical issues such as the peaceful uses of atomic energy and nuclear safety.

Vietnam's Nuclear Energy Policy

Dr. Nguyen Hoang Linh, Director General of the Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety, reaffirmed his country's consistent policy in his national statement at the general conference.

The speech emphasized that the development of atomic energy for peaceful purposes will serve socio-economic development and energy security.

New Research Reactor Project

In line with its 2050 vision, Vietnam is implementing the Strategy for the Development and Application of Atomic Energy for Peaceful Purposes up to 2035.

Under this strategy, preparations are underway for the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project and a Center for Nuclear Science and Technology with a new research reactor in Dong Nai.

International Contacts and Cooperation

On the sidelines of the sessions, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Xuan Dinh held talks with IAEA officials and Russia's Rosatom and Rostechnadzor agencies.

The Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute also held bilateral meetings with international partners to accelerate the implementation of the project in Dong Nai.
