Autonomous Networks, AI, and Advanced Automation: Telefónica's Strategy for Building the Network of the Future

Telefónica continues its efforts to make telecommunications networks autonomous using artificial intelligence and advanced automation technologies. Based on the TM Forum framework, the company aims to reach level 3.75 autonomy by 2028 and level 4 by 2030.

Autonomous Network Journey Program

Telefónica is continuing its end-to-end network transformation at full speed with the Autonomous Network Journey program launched in 2021.

Thanks to advanced automation and artificial intelligence integration, the company is bringing its telecommunications infrastructure into alignment with future standards.

Targeted Autonomy Levels

In line with the strategy prepared on the basis of the TM Forum framework, it is planned to reach autonomy level 3.75 by 2028.

The ultimate goal of the program is to fully transition to a level 4 autonomous network structure by 2030.

Active Artificial Intelligence Use Cases

Currently, there are more than 500 artificial intelligence use cases in production within the company.

15 of these usage scenarios are already operating at autonomy level 4.

New Generation Network Capabilities

Current systems are equipped with self-configuration, self-optimization, and self-healing capabilities.

The transformation process is evolving from traditional instruction-based models to intent-based networks and continuous planning aided by digital twins.

Global Awards Received

Telefónica has been honored with an award by TM Forum for its leadership and impact in the global innovation ecosystem.

The company has once again proven its pioneering position in the sector by winning the 'Catalyst Innovator: Voyager 2026' award.
