Yenişehir Municipality completely renovated the Aydınlıkevler Market Area and opened it as Turkey's first fully accessible, barrier-free market, establishing an infrastructure where individuals with disabilities can both shop and run their own market stalls.

Barrier-Free Market Area Established

Realized in cooperation with the Yenişehir City Council Disabled Persons Assembly and the Disabled Confederation of Turkey, the project aims to enable individuals with disabilities to use the market area independently and safely.

Accessibility Arrangements

Tactile surfaces and guide lines were created for visually impaired individuals in the market area, directional plans prepared in Braille alphabet were placed at the entrances, and stall distances were made suitable for wheelchairs.

Social Amenities and Free Services

While accessible parking spaces, resting areas, and accessible toilets were brought to the area for individuals with disabilities, a free charging station was also put into service for wheelchair users.

Stall Opportunities for Disabled Citizens

One of the most striking aspects of the arrangement is that individuals with disabilities are also provided with the opportunity to directly open stalls in the market area.

Eco-Friendly Roof and Water Management

By using a PVC polymer coating system on the roof of the market area, the environment is ensured to be 11-12 degrees cooler compared to the old system, and collected rainwater is planned to be used for green area irrigation.

Statements from the Mayor

Yenişehir Mayor Abdullah Özyiğit stated that they hope the project will set an example for Turkey and emphasized that investments must be designed to be suitable for the use of all citizens.
