Warning from the Ministry of National Defense Against Steps in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean
The Ministry of National Defense announced that Turkey's rights and interests will be resolutely protected against the unlawful steps taken by the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) and Greece.
During its weekly press briefing, the Ministry of National Defense drew attention to the unlawful initiatives of the GCA and Greece in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean, emphasizing that Turkey is determined to protect its rights.
Developments in Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean
While military developments on the Island of Cyprus are closely monitored, the GCA's arming activities and military cooperations established with third countries were addressed.
It was stated that claims that the air defense system in the GCA does not pose a threat cannot serve as a justification for ignoring the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Greece's Armament Activities
It was recalled that Greece's arming of islands with non-military status violates the 1923 Lausanne and 1947 Paris Peace Treaties.
It was stated that activities outside of this status will not change the legal situation, and a call was made to the administration in Athens to comply with the treaties.
Submarine Power Cable Project
Attention was drawn to the memorandum of understanding signed with Libya and the boundaries notified to the UN in the projects of Greece, the GCA, and Israel.
It was reported that cable or pipeline laying activities to be carried out on the continental shelf must be coordinated with Turkey, and unauthorized works will not be permitted.
