Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez and US Energy Minister Chris Wright met in Caracas to sign a critical agreement transferring control of a significant portion of the country's oil reserves to a North American joint venture.

Critical Meeting and Signing Ceremony

US Energy Minister Chris Wright met with Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez at the Miraflores presidential palace in Caracas on Wednesday.

During this official visit, a comprehensive oil agreement was officially signed between the two countries.

Details of the Agreement and Reserves

Within the framework of the signed agreement, the United States was granted control over approximately one-fifth of Venezuela's oil reserves.

The North American joint venture Blue Energy Partners obtained 100-year rights over 17 oil fields housing 65 billion barrels of proven reserves.

Economic Goals and Conflicting Reactions

The deal is aimed at bringing billions of dollars to an economy damaged by years of sanctions and mismanagement.

However, many Venezuelans see this step, which is synonymous with the country's identity, as a surrender of national sovereignty.

Assessments by Officials

US Energy Minister Chris Wright stated that their goal was to bring peace, freedom, opportunity, and prosperity.

Delcy Rodríguez defended the agreement, stating that she desired her country to become an energy superpower.
