Experts state that with the aging population, the number of dementia patients in Turkey could increase exponentially in the future.
In statements made for World Alzheimer's Day on September 21, it was reported that the number of dementia patients in Turkey could show a serious increase by 2050 along with the aging of the population.
The Global Reality of Dementia
According to World Health Organization data, it was reported that approximately 57 million people worldwide live with dementia, and around 10 million new cases are seen every year.
Current Situation in Turkey
It is estimated that approximately 700,000 people across Turkey live with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia.
Significant Increase Expectation for 2050
Due to the rapid aging of the population, it was stated that the number of patients in Turkey is expected to increase by 2 to 2.5 times by 2050.
Causes and Risk Factors of the Disease
It was emphasized that Alzheimer's is not a natural consequence of aging, but a neurodegenerative disease that impairs memory, thinking, and daily life skills.
