Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aydın Sinan Apaydın, working at Karabük Education and Research Hospital and known for his successful operations in spine surgery, submitted his resignation letter on the grounds that there was no medical secretary in his outpatient clinic.

Reason for Resignation and Events

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aydın Sinan Apaydın, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Karabük University Faculty of Medicine and working at Karabük Education and Research Hospital, noticed during patient examinations that there was no medical secretary in his outpatient clinic.

It was claimed that Apaydın conveyed the situation to the hospital chief physician's office and submitted his resignation letter from his post after his request was not met.

Successful Surgeries and Background

Aydın Sinan Apaydın had recently made headlines with an 8.5-hour, three-stage spine surgery performed on a 33-year-old patient.

The Provincial Directorate of Health had thanked the physicians involved in this operation, which was one of the first ALIF applications in public hospitals.

International Successes and Research

The successful surgeon was selected as the world's first in the field of Medical Innovations and Inventions in the TOYP Global program in 2024.

In addition, he conducted research on minimally invasive spine surgery at Duke University in the USA with a TÜBİTAK scholarship.

The Secretary Problem in the Healthcare System

Patient registration, examination requests, report, and prescription entries in outpatient clinics are normally carried out by medical secretaries.

It is stated that when there is no secretary, these procedures falling upon the physician shortens the time allocated to the patient and lengthens waiting times.
