Ho Chi Minh City police conducted a comprehensive investigation into the syndicate allegedly engaged in cat smuggling. Twelve suspects were detained in raids carried out as part of the investigation.
A large number of criminal instruments, including cat traps, hair removal machines, and scales, were seized during searches conducted by security forces.
Methods of Theft
It was determined that the suspects patrolled residential areas in small groups on motorcycles at night. According to statements by the teams, the suspects set traps by placing pieces of fish outside houses.
Police reports noted that each group stole an average of four to ten cats per night.
Rescued Animals and Seized Belongings
Thirteen of the cats rescued in the operation were returned to their owners. In a statement made on July 8th, it was reported that fifty cats along with numerous cell phones, motorcycles, and cash were seized.

Although the consumption of cat and dog meat is legal in Vietnam, vendors are required to possess permits showing the origin of the animals.
According to data from animal welfare organizations, millions of cats and dogs are captured and slaughtered for meat in the country every year.
