Centrus Energy and Radiant Sign HALEU Fuel Supply Agreement
Centrus Energy has signed a multi-year HALEU nuclear fuel supply contract for Radiant's Kaleidos microreactors.
US-based nuclear enrichment company Centrus Energy and California-based microreactor developer Radiant have signed a definitive multi-year contract covering the supply of HALEU fuel for the construction and deployment of Kaleidos microreactors.
Scope and Details of the Agreement
Under the multi-year agreement signed between Centrus Energy and Radiant, high-assay low-enriched uranium fuel required for Radiant's Kaleidos microreactors will be supplied.
According to the agreement, Centrus plans to begin HALEU fuel deliveries before the end of the decade, with Radiant supporting the domestic capacity program through advance payments.
Importance and Production Process of HALEU Fuel
Enriched with between 5 and 20 percent of the uranium-235 isotope, HALEU fuel stands out as an essential component for many advanced nuclear reactor designs currently under development.
Due to the absence of a commercial source in the United States, the US Department of Energy supports the development of the domestic supply chain and is conducting production activities at its facility in Piketon, Ohio.

Centrus President and CEO Amir Vexler stated that this signed contract strengthens the US-based fuel supply network and helps next-generation nuclear technologies gain access to reliable fuel.
Radiant Chief Nuclear Officer Rita Baranwal noted that the agreement provides a sustainable resource for the Kaleidos project and removes one of the major barriers facing advanced nuclear technologies.
Technical Specifications of the Kaleidos Microreactor
A portable and high-temperature gas-cooled microreactor, Kaleidos combines TRISO fuel, a helium gas coolant, and prismatic graphite blocks.
Designed to fit entirely within a single shipping container, the system has the capacity to generate approximately 3 megawatts thermal or 1 megawatt of electrical power.
