Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the launch of a comprehensive economic offensive targeting Iran's global financial connections. The U.S. administration aims to completely isolate Tehran from its remaining economic partners.

The China Factor and Critical Visit

China, which is Iran's largest trading partner and leading oil buyer, constitutes the biggest hurdle against this U.S. strategy. It is noteworthy that President Donald Trump will host Chinese leader Xi Jinping next month.

It is stated that due to this planned high-level visit, Washington may refrain from taking direct and very harsh steps against China.

Beijing Administration's Reaction

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that his country's cooperation with Iran continues within the framework of international law. Lin reiterated that they oppose illegal unilateral sanctions and will protect their interests.

Analysts' Assessments

Experts state that if the U.S. goal is to completely collapse the Iranian economy, China will not be a partner in this process. However, it is noted that if strategic concessions are extracted, Beijing could show limited cooperation without cutting off relations.
