Ministry of Trade regulation on commission and additional fees for the meal card sector

Within the scope of audits conducted by the Ministry of Trade targeting the meal card sector, the commission rate that can be charged from tradesmen and merchants was capped at a maximum of 6 percent, and demanding additional fees under various names was prohibited.

Audits in the Meal Card Sector

The Ministry of Trade tightened its audits in the meal card sector and placed six major institutions under review. With these new examinations, transparency rules regarding the sector were also reconsidered.

Upper Limit Brought to Commission Rate

With the new regulation, the commission rate that meal card institutions can collect from tradesmen and merchants was determined as a maximum of 6 percent. This application aims to alleviate the financial burdens experienced by businesses.

Additional Fee Demands Completely Banned

Demanding additional fees under different names such as application hosting, rent, consumables, operation, technical support, maintenance, and deposit outside of the commission has been prohibited. The goal is to prevent unfair deductions faced by tradesmen.

Online Ordering Platforms

Touching upon the commissions applied by online food ordering platforms, Ministry officials pointed out that a uniform commission upper limit could directly interfere with price formation.

Campaign and Service Fees

Even if no additional service is provided to the seller, fees cannot be requested solely on the grounds of participation in a campaign. In campaign sales, the commission fee will be calculated over the final price paid by the buyer.
