Clashes Intensify in the Strait of Hormuz: Iran Announces It Targeted Ten Ships
Following the US sinking of five Iranian tankers, the Tehran administration announced it attacked ten ships near the Strait of Hormuz, causing oil prices to surge.
Military activity around the Strait of Hormuz has increased as clashes between the US and Iran have intensified. Following the announcement by US forces that they destroyed five Iranian tankers, Tehran announced it targeted ten ships, including two US vessels.
Critical Tension in the Strait of Hormuz
The most intense clashes of recent weeks have occurred in the six-month war between Iran and the US. While the parties disagree over control of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran is attempting to close the waterway, and Washington is imposing a blockade on Iranian ports.
Oil Prices Exceed One Hundred Dollars
Due to the clashes in the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital for global energy shipments, oil prices rose above one hundred dollars for the first time since July. This increase is expected to trigger global inflation and cause concern in the markets.
Iran's Claim of Attack on Ten Ships
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that eight oil tankers attempting unauthorized passage and two US vessels were targeted. The statement reported that at least one sailor lost their life and one person is missing as a result of the attacks.
Statements from the US and Iraq Fronts
The US Central Command denied allegations that the ships were hit, stating that all attack attempts resulted in failure. Meanwhile, Iraqi authorities reported that a tanker carrying two million barrels of fuel in Iraqi waters was struck directly by a drone, though no leakage occurred.
Jordanian and Regional Repercussions
Iran also reported launching missiles at US bases in Jordan, stating that eighteen of these missiles were intercepted and two fell into vacant land. As the regional dimension of the conflict expands, mutual attacks have also occurred between the Houthis in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
