Ahead of the COP31 climate summit, representatives of thirty countries gathered in Tuvalu to examine land reclaimed from the ocean and hear calls to combat climate change.
International Meeting in Tuvalu
Representatives from thirty different countries came together on Tuesday in the small island nation of Tuvalu, located in the middle of the ocean, to observe the situation in the region firsthand.
Visitors had the opportunity to inspect the land reclamation efforts carried out from the sea across the island in person.
Warning from the Foreign Minister
Tuvalu's Foreign Minister Paulson Panapa stated that climate change is not an abstract concept or a distant threat, but is directly at their doorstep.
Minister Panapa emphasized that the international community must take much more decisive steps against the climate crisis to prevent the country from succumbing to the waves.
Climate Call from Youth
A student on the island nation also appealed to the international community, calling for global climate action and demanding urgent measures.
In the statements made, it was clearly expressed that the island people do not expect mere pity, but rather concrete and decisive steps to be taken.
