In a comprehensive synthetic drug trial in Egypt, the court handed down death sentences to 12 defendants, including famous media figure Sarah Khalifa. The case has been recorded as one of the largest organized crime trials in the country.

Defendant Charges and Organization Structure

In the trial involving a total of 28 defendants, it was determined that the defendants formed an organized crime syndicate to produce and traffic synthetic drugs, as well as possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Among the defendants were individuals who imported drug raw materials.

Sarah Khalifa's Identity and Arrest

Sarah Khalifa, who received a death sentence as a result of the trial, is a well-known figure who has worked as a presenter on various television channels in Egypt, operated a beauty salon, and has millions of followers on social media. Khalifa was reported to have been detained in Cairo in April 2025.

Trial Process and Court Results

In the trial, which was based on technical evidence consisting of messages, photos, and videos, as well as the testimonies of twenty witnesses, 12 defendants were sentenced to death, nine defendants received life imprisonment, and seven defendants were acquitted of all charges.

Seized Items and Measures

Within the scope of the ongoing investigation, authorities seized over 750 kilograms of synthetic drugs and raw materials found hidden in a residence. Additionally, the assets and bank accounts of the defendants were seized as a precautionary measure.
