British far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported to his native United Kingdom after being detained by U.S. authorities for overstaying his visa.
Detention at New Orleans Airport
According to a statement by a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson, 41-year-old Milo Yiannopoulos was detained on Friday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport by Immigration and Customs Enforcement units.
Authorities stated that Yiannopoulos entered the country legally in May 2019 but violated the country's laws by extending his stay beyond the permitted period.
Deportation Order and Past Process
The Department of Homeland Security reported that a final deportation order was issued against Yiannopoulos on July 22 after he failed to attend his immigration hearing.
Following these developments, Yiannopoulos was sent to the UK immediately after Friday's procedure and has not yet made a statement regarding the matter.
Reason for Detention and Associations
According to news broken by celebrity gossip site TMZ, the commentator, who has close ties to the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, Ye, is believed to have been in the city for the artist's concert in New Orleans on Friday evening.
Yiannopoulos, who previously supported Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and is known for his harsh anti-immigrant rhetoric, had argued in past social media posts that millions of people should be deported.
