First Ebola Bundibugyo Case and Death Recorded in Kenya
In Kenya, the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola was detected in a citizen traveling from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the patient lost their life.
Kenyan Health Minister Aden Duale announced that a Kenyan citizen living in the Democratic Republic of Congo died from the Ebola virus after returning to the country, marking the first case seen in the nation.
Journey and Illness Process
The patient, who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the past seven years, fell ill about a month ago and received treatment at various hospitals. During the journey, the patient traveled by road from Congo to Uganda's capital, Kampala, and from there reached Nairobi by plane.
Hospitalization and Isolation in Nairobi
Having passed through routine public screening at Nairobi's main airport, the patient was transported by a relative to a hospital in the city. Later transferred to an isolation facility built during the Covid-19 pandemic, the patient exhibited symptoms such as fever, chills, and bleeding.
Health Measures Taken and Contact Tracing
The patient, who passed away on Monday, was buried on Tuesday in accordance with public health safety protocols. Health authorities have identified at least 28 contacts, including family members and healthcare workers, while also monitoring other passengers and crew members on the flight.
