Court Verdict and Seven-Year Prison Sentence
Former snooker world champion Graeme Dott was sentenced to seven years in prison for the sexual abuse of two children at a hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh.
Trial Process and Charges
Following a five-day trial at the High Court in Glasgow in August, Dott had been found guilty of sexually abusing a boy and a girl. The 49-year-old athlete, who denied the charges, was convicted of lewd and libidinous behavior by a majority verdict of the jury.
Judge's Remarks and Sanctions
Delivering his verdict at the hearing, Lord Harrower stated that the defendant had deprived the victims of a significant part of their childhood. Emphasizing that this behavior was a severe breach of trust, Harrower ordered that Dott's name be placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Developments in His Career
Following his conviction, Graeme Dott's name was removed from the World Snooker hall of fame, and the court ordered that he remain in custody.
