As a result of a sudden flood and glacier disaster in the mountainous border regions of Nepal and Tibet, at least 270 people lost their lives, and over a thousand people are being searched for as missing.
Disaster on the Nepal-Tibet Border
An avalanche and flood disaster occurred along the Lhende Khola river due to the collapse of the lower part of a glacier in the Himalayas. It is feared that the death toll will rise in the incident that hit the Gyirong port and the Nepal side.
Peru and the Huaraz Tragedy
The 1941 glacial lake outburst flood that destroyed the city of Huaraz in the Andes is recorded as one of the deadliest disasters in history, leading to the deaths of approximately 5,000 people.
Mount Huascaran Avalanches
The ice mass detachment that occurred in 1962 on Huascaran, Peru's highest mountain, swallowed the village of Ranrahirca. The 1970 earthquake targeted Yungay and Ranrahirca, causing the deaths of 25,000 people.

In 1981, an ice mass that fell into the Cirenma Co lake in Tibet caused deaths and infrastructure damage in Nepal. In 2021, a similar flood disaster occurred in the Chamoli region of India's Uttarakhand state.
