According to DataReportal's Digital 2026 research and GWI data, internet users worldwide spend an average of 33 hours and 13 minutes per week consuming online media content.

While this duration corresponds to an average daily media consumption of 4 hours and 45 minutes, when converted to a yearly average, it reaches approximately 144 hours on a monthly basis.

Distribution by Social Media and Age Groups

Social media and video platforms make up a very large portion of the time spent on the internet, with adult users spending an average of 18 hours and 36 minutes per week in these areas.

According to the analyses, women aged 16-24 spend 25 hours and 45 minutes per week on social media and video streaming, while male users aged 65 and over spend more than an hour a day.

Usage Habits of Popular Platforms

According to Similarweb data, TikTok stood out among Android users with an average of 1 hour and 37 minutes per person per day, while YouTube held the largest share in total usage time.

While the average daily usage was measured as 1 hour and 13 minutes on Instagram, 1 hour and 7 minutes on Facebook, and 59 minutes on WhatsApp, WhatsApp ranked first by being opened more than 20 times a day.

As of April 2026, the number of people using the internet worldwide reached 6.12 billion, accounting for 73.8 percent of the world's population.

While the number of active social media user identities rose to 5.79 billion, the number of active users in generative artificial intelligence tools also increased by 141 percent to 2.42 billion.
