According to data from the European climate service Copernicus Climate Change Service, August took its place among the hottest months ever measured globally, sharing the same level as July 2023.

Global temperatures exceeded the 1.5-degree limit compared to the pre-industrial era in August, leaving an important climate threshold behind.

U.S. Experiences Hottest Summer in 132 Years

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced that the period between June and August across the contiguous 48 states was recorded as the hottest summer in the past 132 years of record-keeping.

Additionally, average temperatures reached record levels across the U.S. in August, while approximately 60 percent of the country's land remained under the influence of drought.

Climate Change and El Nino Effect

Experts state that the primary and major factor behind the record-breaking temperatures is human-induced climate change, and that the planet continues to warm.

The El Nino climate model, which has begun showing its effects in the Pacific Ocean, was also among the factors triggering this process as warming waters released heat into the air.
