Speaking on the second day of the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, and climate crises threaten global stability, while calling for solidarity among Global South countries.
Emphasis on Global Stability at the BRICS Summit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi drew attention to the growing tensions across the world on the second day of the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi.
Modi stated that geopolitical crises and disruptions in the supply chain negatively affect the lives of ordinary people, emphasizing that the Global South must be supported.
Weaponization of Technology and Critical Minerals
Touching upon the dangers of weaponizing critical minerals and technology during his speech at the summit, Modi warned that this situation could hinder global development and prosperity.
Founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, BRICS has today reached 11 members, representing approximately half of the world's population and a significant portion of global economic output.
Integrated Early Warning System Against Epidemic Diseases
Stating that crises such as pandemics and climate disasters are not limited to any single region, Narendra Modi expressed the importance of acting together in an interconnected world.
Accordingly, the leaders announced that an agreement has been reached to establish an integrated early warning system to increase preparedness against future epidemic diseases.
Multipolar World Order and International Reforms
In the joint declaration published within the scope of the summit, concern was expressed over the conflicts in the Middle East and Sudan, and it was requested that the problems be resolved through dialogue.
Block members reiterated their support for the reform of international institutions, including the United Nations Security Council, and a multipolar world order.
Local Currency in Global Trade and Joint Cooperation
While unilateral sanctions and increases in custom tariffs were criticized in the joint communique, it was stated that such steps weaken global trade and supply chains.
Member countries pledged to increase the use of local currencies in trade and strengthen cooperation on issues such as food security, artificial intelligence, and climate action.
