Iran Executes Person for Israeli Espionage and Strikes Tanker in Strait of Hormuz
The Iranian judiciary has executed a person convicted of spying for Israel, while the Revolutionary Guards announced they struck a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian judicial authorities announced the execution of Hossein Pedaran, who was sentenced to death for leaking missile base intelligence to Israel, amid ongoing tanker attacks and diplomatic contacts in the region.
Person Spying for Israel Executed
According to information reported by Mizan news agency, affiliated with the Iranian judiciary, the prisoner named Hossein Pedaran was hanged after being convicted of cooperating with Israeli intelligence and espionage.
Judicial authorities stated that the defendant carried out espionage activities for financial gain and that the sentence was carried out after the Supreme Court upheld the death penalty.
Civil Defense Alarms in Saudi Arabia
Following an increase in attacks by Iran-backed Houthis on the Gulf country, Saudi civil defense units issued potential danger alerts for the capital Riyadh and the city of Al-Kharj.
It was reported that these alerts were issued for the capital for the first time as Yemen's Houthis intensified their attacks against Saudi Arabia, and that it was announced on Saturday that the danger had passed.
Tanker Struck in Strait of Hormuz
The Navy of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it struck a Togo-flagged tanker named Trend, which was attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday night, due to an illegal crossing attempt.
According to Iranian state media, the Revolutionary Guards warned that any unauthorized vessel would be destroyed, while in a separate incident, United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported that another tanker had been hit.
Talks Between South Korea and the US
South Korean officials met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington to discuss Seoul's role in Middle Eastern maritime security and disputes over a halted investment package.
While South Korea stated that it would not send troops to the Middle East but was considering expanding its naval presence in the Gulf of Aden, the parties reiterated their commitment to the denuclearization of North Korea.
