Iraq Confirms Saudi Pipeline Attacks Originated from Its Territory
The Iraqi government has confirmed that drone attacks on an oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia originated from its territory and has launched an investigation.
The Iraqi government has officially confirmed that unmanned aerial vehicle attacks targeting a critical Saudi Arabian oil pipeline were carried out from its territory. Following these developments, Prime Minister Ali al-Zeidi dismissed the military commander in Maysan province, while Saudi Arabia temporarily closed the pipeline as a precaution.
Source of Attacks Confirmed
In an official statement by the Iraqi government, it was confirmed that recent drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia's oil pipeline were launched from Iraqi territory.
Dismissals and Investigation
Upon determining that the attacks were launched from an area in Maysan province, Prime Minister Ali al-Zeidi placed the regional operations command under investigation and relieved the commander of his duties.
Saudi Arabia's Measures
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the attacks were carried out using drones coming from Iraq. The Kingdom announced that it would not retaliate in order to give the Iraqi government a chance to take the necessary measures.
Pipeline Closed
Immediately following the incidents, Saudi authorities temporarily closed the East-West oil pipeline, which crosses the country, on Friday as a precaution.
Restrictions at the Iran Border
In light of these developments, the Iraqi administration closed the Shalamcheh and Chazabeh border crossings with Iran. In accordance with the decision, all passenger and commercial traffic at these transit points was suspended.
