Lockerbie Bombing Trial Postponed to January 2027
A new date has been set for the trial of the former Libyan intelligence officer accused in the 1988 Pan Am flight disaster.
A U.S. judge has scheduled the trial of the former Libyan intelligence operative accused of making the bomb used in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, for January 2027.
Trial Process and New Date
Jury selection in the federal court case in Washington is scheduled to begin on January 19, 2027.
Defendant's Status and Charges
Abu Agila Mohammad Masud Kheir Al-Marimi has pleaded not guilty to two counts related to the deadly destruction of the aircraft.
Prosecutors state that the defendant manufactured the bomb for the plane, which crashed shortly after taking off from London on December 21, 1988.
Reason for Postponement
The trial, initially scheduled to begin in August, was postponed after defense attorneys requested additional time to review newly submitted evidence.
