LWF General Secretary Dr. Anne Burghardt visited South Africa to foster solidarity among regional churches.
The General Secretary of the Lutheran World Federation, Rev. Dr. Anne Burghardt, and her accompanying delegation undertook a series of engagements aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and hope by visiting member churches in South Africa.
Johannesburg Visit and Sunday Service
Rev. Dr. Anne Burghardt officially began her engagements in South Africa on August 23 by preaching at a Sunday service organized by the Ondini Congregation.
This visit was considered an important step in building close relationships among faith communities in the region and strengthening joint social witness.
Leadership Consultation Meeting
Following the program in Ondini, Burghardt and her delegation participated in the LWF Africa Lutheran Churches Leadership Consultation held in Johannesburg from August 24 to 28.
This meeting provided a platform for church leaders from across the continent to come together and exchange views on shared strategies and regional issues.
Regional Cooperation and Solidarity
Africa Regional Secretary Dawai stated that this visit aims to reinforce hope in South Africa and the wider Southern African region.
Within the scope of the visit, a total of four LWF member churches—three Lutheran and one Moravian—were brought together with the goal of establishing closer ties.
Church and Representative Visits
As part of the visits, Burghardt and her delegation visited Peace Church, affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa, North-Eastern Diocese, located in the Hillbrow neighborhood of Johannesburg.
The delegation also met with representatives from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Africa for mutual discussions.
