Media Academy Talent at the World U20 Championships in Oregon
Students from the University of Oregon gained hands-on experience in press, photography, and videography at the World U20 Athletics Championships.
The World Athletics Media Academy, held as part of the World U20 Athletics Championships in Oregon, provided local university students with comprehensive media experience at an international event.
Student Participation in the Championships
Fourteen students from the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication served in editorial, photography, and videography roles. This participation marked the first time an academy has driven an official website's coverage at this level.
Training and Coverage Process
Led by Zakarias Vailakis and Martina Kučerová, the initiative aims to train the next generation of sports media professionals. Oregon hosted the third academy in 2026, following editions in Oregon, Botswana, and Rome.
Expert Team Support and Operations
While Jessica Whittington led the editorial team, photography and videography teams guided students with industry experts and modern equipment.
Future Goals and President's Participation
Students participated in a Q&A session with World Athletics President Sebastian Coe. It was announced that the Media Academy's next stop will be Beijing in 2027.
