Methodology for the 2027 Best Universities Rankings Announced
Details of the new ranking model evaluating the academic quality of higher education institutions and graduate success have been shared.
U.S. News & World Report has announced the methodology for the 2027 Best Colleges rankings, which includes 17 different criteria measuring academic quality and graduate success for more than 1,700 institutions.
Ranking Criteria and Scope
The process is conducted to enable prospective students and their families to compare institutions with a data-driven approach. Seventy-three percent of the schools ranked for the 2027 evaluation provided data directly.
Data Verification Processes
A comprehensive data verification process is applied by combining institutional submissions with external sources such as IPEDS, College Scorecard, and Elsevier. Schools that do not provide data are evaluated through publicly available federal data.
Categories and Evaluation Factors
Schools are grouped into 10 different categories based on Carnegie classifications. Main evaluation factors include student outcomes, peer assessment, faculty, and financial resources.
