Minister Kacır: At Least Two Percent of Public Investments Will Be Allocated to Artificial Intelligence

Speaking at the High-Level Forum on Sustainable Public Procurement held in the USA, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced that at least 2 percent of the total public investment program budget will be allocated to artificial intelligence projects.

Clear Target for Artificial Intelligence Investments

Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır spoke at the High-Level Forum on Sustainable Public Procurement held in the USA within the scope of the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations.

Minister Kacır stated that they have set a clear target to allocate at least 2 percent of the total public investment program budget to artificial intelligence projects.

The Power of Public Procurement and Transformation

Stating that public procurement is a powerful tool in advancing sustainability goals, Kacır said that the preferences of governments and major buyers shape markets.

Kacır emphasized that sustainable public procurement goes beyond simply purchasing eco-friendly products, utilizing the power of demand to accelerate industrial transformation.

Turkey's Artificial Intelligence Action Plan

Expressing that Turkey implements a market-shaping approach regarding emerging technologies, Kacır touched upon the action plan announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

He conveyed that the artificial intelligence action plan is built on four main axes—recognize, benefit, produce, and manage—and is supported by a human-centric approach.

Green Transformation and Financing Goals

Stating that Turkey has placed green transformation at the center of its industrial policies in line with its 2053 net-zero emission target, Kacır noted that they aim for over 3 billion dollars in investments through incentives.

Stating that they have initiated three projects with the World Bank, Kacır also said that the platform established with international organizations aims to mobilize over 5 billion euros in financing by 2030.

Renewable Energy Capacity

Stating that Turkey is one of Europe's largest solar panel producers and among the top 5 wind turbine producers, Minister Kacır drew attention to the importance of renewable energy.

Kacır added that Turkey adds approximately 8 gigawatts of new solar and wind energy capacity every year.
