The Ministry of Health drew attention to the fact that excessive sugar consumption can increase the risk of diabetes and excess weight, calling on citizens for water consumption and portion control.

Sugar consumption and health risks

In the statement made by the Ministry of Health, it was stated that excessive sugar consumption leads to unhealthy eating habits and increases the risk of diseases such as diabetes.

The statement noted that the frequent consumption of sugary beverages in particular paves the way for the risk of excess weight.

Call for water and unsweetened beverage preference

The ministry recommended preferring water and unsweetened beverages instead of sugary drinks.

It was emphasized that desserts and sugary products should be consumed less and always preferred in small portions.

Efforts to combat obesity

It was stated that screening activities for excess weight and diabetes risk are carried out by family physicians.

It was reported that the efforts are being continued within the scope of the Turkey Healthy Nutrition and Active Life Program, Fight Against Obesity and Physical Activity Action Plan.

Nutritional awareness in childhood

It was underlined that a culture of healthy eating should be instilled starting from childhood.
