New Flood Hazard Warning Issued in Nepal

Nepalese authorities reported that residents in flood-affected areas must remain on high alert following the rise in water levels in the Bhotekoshi River.
While flood warning text messages were sent to citizens' phones throughout Sunday morning, search and rescue teams worked to clear the main highway connecting Kathmandu to the hardest-hit regions.
Damage to Villages and Agricultural Areas
In the town of Galchhi, a group of residents climbed onto high bridges to watch the river's flow, while landslides occurred in the rice paddies along the riverbank.
Along the river, houses, vehicles, and tractors were trapped in thick gray-brown mudslides that swallowed villages.
Rising Death and Missing Toll
According to the latest updates on Sunday, the total death toll in Nepal and Tibet has risen to 750, with more than 3,000 people reported missing.
Nepal's disaster agency announced that the death toll had risen to 734 with 2,498 people missing, while Chinese authorities reported 16 deaths and 546 missing.
Upstream Water Flow Notification
Dharam Raj Uprety, an official at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, stated that Chinese authorities informed the Nepalese side that the water flow upstream had increased.
Following this notification, new flood warnings were activated in the region, and citizens were warned to take precautions.
Persistent Alarms and Challenges
Residents expressed experiencing great uncertainty and exhaustion due to the almost uninterrupted alarms since the initial disaster.
Local people voiced the difficulties of moving their elderly parents to safe areas and having to flee even in the middle of the night.
Road and Infrastructure Issues
Communities on both sides of the river began experiencing transportation difficulties due to the destruction of major concrete and small suspension bridges.
Homes and businesses that survived the flood continued to be deprived of electricity because power poles and cables were buried in mud.
