New Multi-Billion Dollar Munitions Sale Plan from US to Israel
The Donald Trump administration is preparing to approve a massive $2.8 billion arms sales package to Israel, including thousands of 2,000-pound heavy bombs.
The US administration plans to deliver a major $2.8 billion arms sales package to Israel, featuring 2,000-pound bombs with devastating destructive power such as the MK 84 and BLU-117.
$2.8 Billion Arms Package
The Washington administration has activated a new military sales plan considered one of the largest ammunition transfers in recent years. Under the agreement, informally notified to Congress, the delivery of thousands of heavy bombs to Israel is envisioned.
Technical Specifications of the Bombs
The package includes a total of 40,000 bombs weighing 2,000 pounds, comprising 20,000 MK 84s and 20,000 BLU-117s. Along with these munitions, 20,000 I-2000 Penetrator warheads are also included in the shipment plan.
Destructive Impact and Past Situation
Ranked among the most destructive munitions in the Western military arsenal, these bombs can penetrate concrete and metals by scattering large metal fragments across thousands of feet upon detonation. The Biden administration had previously suspended these deliveries, but Donald Trump lifted the barrier after taking office.
Regional Developments and Political Background
This new sales step coincided with Israel's military operations in Gaza and its increasing international isolation following Hamas's attacks on October 7, 2023. Military cooperation between the parties gained momentum following the war launched against Iran in February.
