Oshen Showcases Acoustic Picket Technology at REPMUS26 Exercise
Oshen is testing the world's first acoustic surveillance network with six robotic sailboats during the REPMUS26 naval exercise.
Plymouth-based marine company Oshen is showcasing the world's first acoustic picket system using six robotic sailboats equipped with hydrophones at the REPMUS26 maritime robotics exercise.
Exercise and Surveillance Network
During the month-long REPMUS26 exercise, Oshen has deployed six 1.2-meter robotic sailboats carrying hydrophones to form a distributed surveillance network. This system is being tested against live targets for the first time.
Alternative to Traditional Methods
Traditional passive sonar monitoring methods rely on surface platforms that are sensitive to noise pollution and cover limited areas. In contrast, Oshen aims to increase detection probability by utilizing numerous small, low-cost sensors spread across a wide area.
Features of C-Star Boats
Equipped with Systems Engineering and Assessment hydrophones, the C-Star autonomous boat fleet can form an acoustic barrier in waters such as the Greenland, Iceland, UK gap. Resistant to harsh environmental conditions, these boats have a low signature and can operate for extended periods.
NATO Integration and Future Goals
Oshen engineers have ensured that the command software is compatible with NATO systems, while C-Star data is transmitted to a central database. In addition to ongoing projects with the UK Royal Navy and the US Navy, the company will participate in the Maritime Big Play exercise in San Diego next month.
