Prominent culture and art events around the world this week
A wide range of culture and art events, from music festivals to film screenings, and from biennials to exhibitions, are meeting with art lovers in different parts of the world.
Many international art events, including the Austin City Limits Music Festival, the Cervantino Festival, the Berlin Festival of Lights, and the Busan International Film Festival, are opening their doors in different cities around the world this week.
Austin City Limits and Cervantino Festival
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year at Zilker Park in Texas, USA, the Austin City Limits Music Festival welcomes music lovers during the first two weekends of October. The 54th Festival Internacional Cervantino, one of the deeply rooted events of the Latin American scene, continues until October 18 in the historic city of Guanajuato, Mexico. Marking the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, France is this year's guest of honor.
Unsound and Berlin Festival of Lights
Held in the Polish cities of Warsaw and Krakow, the avant-garde and experimental music platform Unsound Festival meets music lovers under the theme Soft Power. Meanwhile, the Berlin Festival of Lights, which transforms Germany's capital Berlin into a giant open-air gallery, illuminates landmark structures with video-mapping and light installations by international artists.
Sitges and Abu Dhabi Festival
The 59th Sitges-Catalunya International Fantastic Film Festival, a major event for the fantasy and horror genres, opened its doors in Spain with Found Alive serving as the opening film. In the United Arab Emirates, the 23rd Abu Dhabi Festival welcomes art lovers at the Etihad Arena under the theme The Wisdom of Culture.
Busan International Film Festival
The 31st Busan International Film Festival, where the heart of Asian cinema beats, is being held at the Busan Cinema Center in South Korea. Within the scope of the festival, Zhang Yimou serves as the jury president, while figures such as Michelle Yeoh and Ann Hui were honored with awards.
Gwangju Biennale and Kyoto Music Events
Korea's long-established contemporary art event, the 16th Gwangju Biennale, continues until November 15 under the title You Must Change Your Life, with Turkey's İnci Eviner also participating with her works. In Kyoto, Japan, the Zen and Ghibli exhibition and the Kyoto Music Expo meet with music lovers.
