Moscow is preparing for the final tests of a new ballistic missile capable of hitting targets hundreds of miles away, which could challenge Ukraine's air defense systems.

Countdown for New Missile Tests

Vadym Skibitskyi, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU), stated that Russia plans to carry out the final tests of a new type of ballistic missile with a range of up to 800 kilometers by the end of the year.

New Threat for Air Defense Systems

Tom Karako, Director of the Missile Defense Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, stated that the advanced maneuverability would create greater problems for Ukraine and require more advanced interceptors. Karako highlighted the terminal maneuvers of the missiles, which allow defenders to be confused about the trajectory.

In the Category Under the Former Treaty

The missile in question falls into a category that was once banned under the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, which restricted ground-launched ballistic and cruise missiles with ranges between 500 and 5,500 kilometers.
