Russian drone attack on military ammunition depots near Kyiv leaves 37 dead
Explosions occurred in the attack targeting the ammunition depot in the Bucha region, while numerous buildings were damaged and hundreds of people were evacuated.
As a result of a Russian drone attack on a warehouse containing military ammunition in the Bucha region near the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, at least 37 people lost their lives and 42 others were injured.
Drone Hit on Depot Triggered Explosions
An unmanned aerial vehicle struck a military facility located near the western suburbs of Kyiv where explosive items were stored. Following the impact at the ammunition depot in the town of Myla, violent explosions and a massive fire broke out.
Casualties and Condition of the Injured
As a result of the attack, at least 37 people lost their lives, while 42 people, including four children, were injured. More than fifty residential buildings, including a nursing home for the elderly and disabled, were damaged.
Taras Didych, the head of the Dmytrivka community, was also among those who lost their lives while trying to rescue other people. Regional Governor Tymur Tkachenko and authorities are continuing their efforts for the injured.
Evacuation Efforts and Investigation Process
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that more than three hundred and seventy people had been evacuated from the scene to safe areas and that this process is ongoing. Ukrainian prosecutors have launched an investigation into the legality of storing explosive materials.
Official Statements and Russia's Objectives
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that they targeted the center in Myla where long-range drone components and launchers were stored, as well as the ports of Mykolaiv and Izmail. Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi recalled that a similar disaster occurred in Vyshneve in July.
