Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Washington on Monday to hold talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio against the backdrop of rising clashes with the Houthis.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan made an official visit to Washington to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The visit was announced to the public by the Saudi state news agency.

Agenda of the Meeting

The foreign ministers of the two countries will discuss bilateral relations as well as key developments concerning the region and the international arena. Regional security topics are also expected to be addressed during the talks.

Houthi Tensions and US Support

These diplomatic contacts coincide with a period of escalating hostilities between the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen and the Riyadh administration. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had requested military assistance from the US against the Houthis earlier this month.

Intelligence Cooperation

Although the Washington administration rejected Saudi Arabia's request to launch direct military strikes, it had reached an agreement to provide support on intelligence and targeting matters.
