Within the framework of the research, the prevalence of secondhand smoking and the disease burden it creates in 204 countries and territories were examined in detail.
Millions of People Exposed to Smoke
According to the findings, a total of over 2.7 billion people were exposed to secondhand smoke globally in 2023, with approximately 767 million of them being children.
Causes of Death and Risk Groups
It was reported that deaths among adults primarily stemmed from ischemic heart disease, while lower respiratory tract infections were prominent among children.
Call for Tobacco Control Measures
Emphasizing that secondhand smoking continues to pose a serious global health threat, it was urged that stronger tobacco control measures be implemented, particularly to protect women and children.
