Security Official in Iran Warns of Deep Economic Crisis
Senior security official Mohsen Rezaei stated that the country is going through one of the most difficult periods in its history due to sanctions and a naval blockade.
Iran's national security adviser made a rare admission that the rapidly deteriorating economy is dragging the country into one of the most difficult periods in its history.
Economic Crisis and Sanctions
Mohsen Rezaei, Iran's top security official, drew attention to the gravity of the situation at a meeting to stabilize the economy. Following the war launched by the US and Israel in February, the Iranian rial rapidly lost value.
Oil Exports and Blockade
Increased U.S. sanctions and the imposed naval blockade have made imports expensive. This situation has deepened the long-standing livelihood crisis and largely hindered oil exports, which are the main source of income.
Cabinet Reshuffle and Reactions
Following the deepening crisis, Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad resigned, and Hamid Bovard was appointed as his interim replacement. Due to inadequate salaries, public and private sector employees organized protests or went on strike.
