In the general elections held in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday, which are of critical importance for the country's future, Serb nationalist politician Milorad Dodik declared his party's victory. The electoral process took place under the influence of economic pressures, expectations of integration into the European Union, and lingering ethnic tensions from the past.

Election Results and Dodik's Role

Serb nationalist politician Milorad Dodik stamped his mark on the election campaign despite being banned from public office and not appearing on the ballot due to defying international peace agreement decisions.

With nearly 90% of the votes counted, Dodik's ally Zeljka Cvijanovic took the lead in the race to win one of the seats in the country's tripartite presidency.

Status of Other Leaders and Turnout Rate

According to the election results, Denis Becirovic declared himself the winner of the Bosniak seat, while Darijana Filipovic was far ahead in the race for the Croat seat.

In the elections where new electronic voting systems caused technical delays, the total turnout rate was around 42%, which remained lower compared to the 2022 elections.
