In the second match of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Group C, the Turkish Women's National Basketball Team lost 87-71 to Australia, suffering their second defeat in the group.

Start of the Match and the First Quarter

Drawing attention with their effective play in the paint in the opening minutes of the match, Australia managed to secure an 8-0 run just two minutes into the game.

Holding onto the game with points scored from the free-throw line, our national team took the lead 15-14 in the seventh minute with a basket by Elif Bayram.

Australia's First-Period Lead

Unable to prevent their opponent's 7-0 run in the section after taking the lead, the Turkish Women's National Basketball Team finished the first period of the match trailing 21-15.

Second Period and Halftime Score

Carrying their effective play from the end of the first quarter into the second period, Australia brought the deficit to double digits in the 14th minute with Melbourne's basket: 18-28.

Despite finding accurate shots from beyond the arc, the national team could not find a remedy for their opponent's dominance in the paint and went into the locker room trailing 40-30.

The Second Half Struggle

Making a very eager entry into the second half of the match, Turkey tried to reduce the deficit with baskets found from behind the three-point line, narrowing the margin to six points in the 16th minute.

Third Period and Finale

After a section marked by alternating baskets, Australia widened the gap again, closing the third period of the match ahead 67-55 and winning the game 87-71.
