Two Sailors Killed in Tanker Attack in the Strait of Hormuz

Saudi Arabia announced that an attack originating from Iran targeted a Saudi-owned supertanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night, resulting in the deaths of two Filipino sailors.

Tanker Incident and Casualties

Saudi Arabia's national shipping company, Bahri, confirmed on Wednesday that its vessel named Sidr was involved in a security incident while passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

It was officially confirmed that two Filipino sailors lost their lives in the incident, where projectiles struck north of Oman's Musandam Peninsula.

Regional Tensions and Statements

While the Iranian side has not yet responded to Saudi Arabia's allegations, it had previously stated that two tankers using unauthorized routes in the strait had hit mines and caught fire.

Meanwhile, it was reported that US-led airstrikes and Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting bases in neighboring Arab countries took place in the region.

Closed Routes and Diplomatic Response

It was stated that the Strait of Hormuz has been effectively closed to traffic since the war began, and the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks.
