A Liberian-flagged oil tanker was targeted by a Ukrainian-origin uncrewed surface vehicle off the coast of Sochi, Russia. As a result of the fire that broke out, all 23 Indian crew members on board were rescued in a successful operation.

Tanker Attacked Off Sochi

An oil tanker flying the Liberian flag became the target of uncrewed surface vehicles off the coast of Sochi, a tourism city on Russia's southern coast.

Following the attack, a massive fire broke out on the vessel, and thick black smoke rose over the resort city.

23 Indian Crew Members Rescued

According to statements made by the Russian Ministry of Transport, the lives of the 23 Indian crew members on the attacked tanker were put in danger.

Authorities confirmed that as a result of prompt interventions, all crew members on board were rescued safe and sound.

Security Measures Along the Coastline

The mayor of Sochi announced that access to the coastline and beaches was restricted due to the fire and the security risk experienced.

The severity and intensity of the flames were among the primary factors that prevented fire-fighting teams from intervening in the fire immediately.
