Experts reported that this natural phenomenon, which has a nearly 100 percent probability of continuing until February 2027, will fundamentally alter global temperature and precipitation balances.

The El Niño event, which officially formed in June, is expected to maintain its effect throughout the autumn and winter and peak at the end of the year. The World Meteorological Organization stated that current data clearly show this natural climate phenomenon will continue uninterrupted.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized that the planet is sailing in uncharted waters and that these waters are getting progressively warmer. WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo stated that destructions originating from droughts and floods are already being observed and are expected to increase.

A stronger El Niño significantly alters precipitation and temperature patterns worldwide, triggering extreme weather events. In North America, the tendency towards wetter conditions in the southern parts and milder temperatures in the north stands out.
Probability of Record Levels
NOAA drew attention to the possibility of this El Niño being the strongest in 70 years. The agency projected a 90 percent probability of it reaching a very strong status with the potential to surpass past record events of 1997-1998 and 2015-2016.
