The US aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush arrived at Thailand's tourist island of Phuket on Sunday following a six-month period supporting operations in the Middle East.
Middle East Mission Period
The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and its strike group had supported maritime security and stability in the Middle East through Operation Epic Fury and naval blockade activities.
First Port Visit
For the George H.W. Bush Strike Group, which departed from Virginia and Florida in March, this stop marks the first port visit conducted following its long deployment.
Cultural and Social Activities
During their stay in Phuket, sailors assigned to the ship will spend their time participating in various tours and playing a US-Thailand football match.
Visit Dates and Details
The crew of the ship, anchored offshore, will come ashore via the Phuket Deep Sea Port to enjoy a vacation on the island between October 4 and 9.
Other Visits in the Region
This visit follows a five-day visit made last month to the Laem Chabang port by the US vessel Abraham Lincoln, which carried approximately 5,000 sailors and marines.
