According to the 2026 Global Innovation Index report released by the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, Vietnam achieved a significant success by ranking 43rd among 139 countries and economies.
Rise in the Global Innovation Index
The World Intellectual Property Organization shared the Global Innovation Index 2026 report with the public in Geneva, Switzerland. According to the report, Vietnam ranked 43rd among 139 countries and economies, moving up one place compared to the previous year.
Decade of Progress and Goals
Rising from 59th place in 2016 to 43rd place in 2026, Vietnam recorded a total increase of 16 steps over more than a decade. The country aims to be among the top 40 countries by 2030 and the top 30 countries by 2045.
Regional and Economic Position
Vietnam ranked second among lower-middle-income economies, following India, and positioned third in the ASEAN region after Singapore and Malaysia. It was also highlighted as one of the countries that has improved its ranking the fastest since 2013.
Developments in Innovation Output
Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan stated that the innovation output ranking rose from 37th to 35th, noting that this is a remarkable result. The country aims to increase its development potential in strategic technologies.
