World Health Organization: Death toll in Yemen conflicts reaches 194

The World Health Organization announced that the number of people who lost their lives in the clashes that intensified between August 23 and September 6 in Yemen rose to 194, and the number of injured reached 884.

Loss of Life and Increase Rate in Clashes

According to the report published by the World Health Organization's Yemen office, the recently intensified clashes in the country increased in many regions, primarily Taiz, Hodeidah, Marib, Lahij, and Hadhramaut.

The report stated that the total number of dead and injured, which was 350 until August 23, rose to 1,078 as of September 5, consisting of 884 injured and 194 individuals who lost their lives.

Difficulties in Transporting the Injured to Hospitals

It was recorded that between August 23 and September 6, 127 people lost their lives due to clashes, and 601 people were injured.

It was emphasized that during this 13-day period, injuries and casualties increased by 208 percent, and the mortality rate remained high at 18 percent. It was stated that the injured were delayed in reaching the hospital due to explosions and bombardments.

Large-Scale Displacements Occurred

While it was reported that mass displacements took place in Taiz, it was announced that approximately 21,036 people from 3,506 homes in areas close to the front lines have been displaced since September 3.

In addition, it was stated that a total of 2,685 women and young girls, including 240 pregnant women who needed to receive healthcare services, were forced to leave their homes.

Casualties by Health Facilities and Governorates

The report shared that the clashes in Taiz, Lahij, and Hodeidah directly affected health facilities, and 3 health centers were damaged and put out of service.

It was stated that casualties and injuries were recorded in 9 governorates of Yemen, with 74 percent of these casualties occurring in Taiz and Hodeidah, and 20 percent in Marib governorate.
