World Health Organization Declares End of Ebola Outbreak in Uganda

The World Health Organization has announced the end of the Ebola outbreak in Uganda after the country completed the mandatory 42-day monitoring period with no new infections.

End of the Outbreak in Uganda

The World Health Organization and the Ugandan Ministry of Health held a joint press conference on Tuesday to officially announce the end of the Ebola outbreak in the country.

The East Africa country surpassed the mandatory 42-day monitoring period without detecting any new cases and was thus declared Ebola-free.

Case and Recovery Process

During the outbreak, a total of 20 Ebola cases were reported across Uganda, with the last confirmed case recorded on June 21.

Two people lost their lives due to the virus during this outbreak period, and the last patient was discharged from the Mulago National Referral Isolation Center on July 16.

Situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

While the situation in Uganda remains positive, the pace of the outbreak continues to accelerate in the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo, where cases are on the rise.

As of August 25, the total number of confirmed cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo reached 5,656, with a total of 2,715 deaths recorded.

Cross-Border Health Security

The Ituri province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo remains the epicenter of the outbreak with more than 4,000 infected individuals.

Uganda announced that it will open new Ebola treatment centers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, bringing the total number of centers to four, in order to support cross-border health security.
