In its new report covering the period between 2000 and 2026, the World Health Organization shared the effects of tobacco use on reproductive health in women and men and the risk of infertility with the public.

Risk of Infertility and Women's Health

The published report stated that the risk of infertility in women who use tobacco can be 40 percent higher compared to those who do not smoke. It was also emphasized that passive smoking can have negative effects on fertility.

It was noted that the risk of infertility in women who smoked in the past but quit is 25 percent lower compared to those who still continue to smoke, pointing out the importance of quitting smoking.

Male Reproductive Health and Treatment Processes

Among the findings included in the report were that men who smoke may experience more problems with sexual functions and that this situation directly threatens reproductive health.

It was recorded that tobacco use reduces the success rate of administered infertility treatment and decreases the chance of having a baby.

Other Tobacco Products and Scientific Studies

It was stated that more scientific studies are needed regarding the effects of electronic cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, waterpipe (hookah), and similar other tobacco products on human health.
