Saudi Arabia confirmed that the Houthis in Yemen attempted a ballistic missile attack on the capital Riyadh, and the missile was intercepted in mid-air by coalition forces. There were no casualties or material damage reported in the incident.
Attack Attempt Targeting Riyadh and Other Cities
The Saudi-led coalition forces announced that a ballistic missile attempt by the Houthi rebel group in Yemen targeting the capital Riyadh was thwarted. Residents heard explosion sounds and smoke was seen near the airport.
The coalition reported that civilian infrastructure in the Red Sea port city of Yanbu, Taif, Baysh, and Farasan were also targeted, but these attempts were likewise neutralized.
Houthi Claims and Escalation of Conflict
While the Houthi military spokesperson claimed that the attacks were carried out with missiles and drones, he alleged that Saudi Arabia targeted Sanaa. The claims of the parties could not be independently verified.
